After 11 years of continuous ministry in the River Valley

Common Ground is undergoing a change!

When Common Ground first began in 1997, we were one of the few groups that were helping introduce contemporary worship to the traditional churches in the Arkansas River Valley.  We grew to an amazing size with a complete wind and brass ensemble.  As the years progressed we added in familiar oldies songs to play in community events.  We were careful in our selections to have only family friendly songs.

As the years have progressed, nearly every church has a contemporary worship team.  Most of those churches no longer have evening services which was where we were invited to serve.  In the last 3 years all of our engagements have become community based.  Realizing this, the group felt it was time for a change.

The first thing we emphasize is that we will always present worship music in all of our concert venues.  That will never change because that is who we are and why we started.  However, we realized that there was a great void in family friendly entertainment.  With soaring gas prices, families have cut back on trips to Branson and other areas.  We want to bring the great oldies music of the 50's to the 80's to this area in the form of free entertainment!

The band is currently rehearsing a new set of music that includes the fun, singable, danceable hits spanning four decades of music.  Songs familiar to both adults, teens and children.  We will soon be available to help with church picnics, fundraisers, county fairs, festivals and other community events.

The vision of Common Ground is still to be a group of people committed to fulfilling Jesus’ prayer in John 17:23, “I in them and You in me.  May they be brought to complete unity that the world may know that You sent me and have loved them even as You have loved me.”  We believe this covers several different areas.  We must learn to put aside age differences, doctrinal differences, and we must show the lost world Jesus cares for them where they are.  We will do this through both Christian and secular music.

We love what we do.  We rehearse on Sunday's  from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Community Room in the Russellville Chamber of Commerce building in Russellville (see dates page for rehearsal calendar).   If you are interested in how to become a member of Common Ground or in booking the band for an event, talk to Brian or Shirley at 968-8074.
